The two results answer different questions. The filename answers "which clip was that again", the transcript answers "what exactly was said in it". Together they turn a folder of camera files into something you can search: by subject through the name and tags, and by sentence through the transcript.

Cliptag on your Mac takes the whole memory card instead of one clip, sorts everything into scene folders and writes the tags as Finder labels. On top of that comes the text editor: every talking clip gets its transcript, filler words and long pauses are detected, and you cut in the text. Delete a sentence and Cliptag renders a rough cut next to your original.

What exactly do I get back?

A filename built from what the clip shows, a handful of tags, the scene, and the transcript if someone is speaking. The transcript downloads as TXT, DOCX, PDF or SRT. The renamed clip is written by your browser from the file already on your computer.

Do I have to choose between renaming and transcribing?

Not here. This page runs both in one pass. The two specialised pages exist for people who only want one of them.

Does this cost anything, or need an account?

No. The online tools are free and there is nothing to sign up for. The Mac app has a free plan too, with 25 cloud clips a month and an unlimited local mode.

Which formats work?

MP4 and MOV with H.264 or HEVC work directly in the browser, which covers phones and most cameras. 10-bit HEVC from drones and ProRes are read on our server. Camera RAW formats such as BRAW, R3D and ARRIRAW are not supported.
